Is Dove Soap safe for a Spray Tan? Here’s why we say no.

We love Dove. Your spray tan? It would prefer you two take a little break. 😂

You've had your spray tan. The colour is colouring. 🤎

You hop into the shower, reach for the same Dove you've used forever and don't give it another thought.

A few days later...

"Why is my spray tan fading so fast?"

Well, friend. We need to talk about your shower routine.

At Bronzefx, one of our simplest aftercare recommendations is:

While you're wearing your spray tan, skip the Dove.

And before Dove sends us a strongly worded letter 😂, we're not saying Dove is a bad skincare brand.

We're saying great for everyday skin doesn't automatically mean ideal for maintaining a sunless tan.

Does Dove soap remove a spray tan?

Not like an eraser.

Your spray tan develops in the outermost layer of your skin and naturally fades as those skin cells shed. Products and habits that encourage exfoliation can make that colour fade faster or less evenly.

Dove also isn't one single formula. There are Beauty Bars, body washes, highly moisturizing formulas and even exfoliating Dove products.

And exfoliation?

Great BEFORE your spray tan.

While we're trying to preserve it?

Not invited. 😂

But Dove is moisturizing. Isn't that good?

YES. We love hydrated skin.

But a moisturizing cleanser and moisturizing your skin after your shower aren't quite the same thing.

For spray tan aftercare, we like to keep things simple:

Gentle cleanse. Rinse. Pat dry. Moisturize.

The goal isn't to strip, scrub, polish or exfoliate the skin we're trying to keep beautifully bronzed.

What about Dove Sensitive Skin?

This is where we need a little nuance.

Is Dove Sensitive Skin going to instantly destroy your spray tan?

No.

If you accidentally use it once, are we holding a funeral for your tan?

Also no. 😂

But would it be our first choice for maintaining your spray tan?

Still no.

We'd rather you use a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser that we know plays nicely with sunless colour.

🚿 Your shower habits matter too.

We can't blame everything on poor Dove.

Long hot showers, loofahs, scrubs, exfoliating acids, soaking in baths and aggressively towel-drying can all contribute to faster fading.

Remember:

Quick. Lukewarm. Gentle. Pat dry.

Your tan doesn't need drama.

So what should you use after a spray tan?

Look for a gentle, non-exfoliating body cleanser and avoid anything designed to scrub, polish, resurface or exfoliate.

Then moisturize daily.

Because your spray tan is only as good as the condition of your skin. 🤎 And if you're ever unsure whether something in your shower is spray tan safe, ask us.

Sometimes the product quietly sabotaging your tan isn't sitting on your bathroom counter...

It's already in your shower. 👀

🤎 The Bronzefx Sunless Rule

Dove while you're trying to keep your tan? Take a little break.

You two can reunite later. 😂
