During Tan Development
Before Your Tan
Before your tan
Shower + exfoliate 24 HRS before your appointment.
Avoid using products that may contain essential oils. This will prepare your skin, leaving it clean with an even surface, but giving it time to gain some natural body oils. We advise against using a body scrub/loofah combo as most are oil-based and will leave a residue.
Wax/Shave Any Unwanted Body Hair.
If you shave, this step should be done at least 24 hours before your spray tan session. If you wax, this step should be done 48 hours before your appointment as waxy residue will block tanner absorption.
If getting your tan the same day as your nail appointment, avoid any oils or lotions your nail technician may use. If getting your nails done after your tan, be aware that soaking, acetone, oils, and lotions can cause uneven fading. Manicure and pedicures are HIGHLY recommended 24 hrs before your appointment.
Do not apply any lotions, oils, deodorant, perfumes, or makeup before your appointment. These products can create a barrier on your skin, preventing the tan from adhering properly. If you have any on, use a Micellar Wipe to remove them. Avoid Neutrogena Makeup Wipes, as they contain oils that can further block the tan.
Avoid using retinol on your face or neck at least 7 days prior to your appointment. Retinols are known to promote cell turnover and exfoliation, which can cause the spray tan to fade faster. The accelerated exfoliation process can lead to uneven or patchy tan results
Make sure to wash your hair prior to your appointment (or plan out your hair washing schedule) as to avoid washing your hair during your first rinse. Ingredients in shampoo + conditioner can interfere with development of your sunless tan
Showering before your spray tan appointment will wash away amino acids resulting in a lighter tan. You may also streak from the water marks and your pores will open causing the solution to get trapped in pores resulting in black dots on skin.
You cannot get a spray tan if you have an active sunburn (even 1 month old) spraying on sunburned skin will result in a cracked and uneven spray tan. You must wait until the damaged skin is healed before your spray tan appointment.
Tan Maintenance
During Tan Development
Do not touch your skin. If you touch yourself while your tan is developing, this could result in orange palms.
If you accidentally touch your body, use a Bronzier Exfoliating Mitt to lighten your hands.
Try to keep skin dry + cool, no sweating or water contact while developing, this can result in blotching. Avoid skin to skin contact (intimacy or breast feeding etc.) Absolutely no water contact on your skin during development.
Dress for the weather and bring a change of dark, loose clothing. No tight-fitting light clothes (no yoga pants/tight jeans) Please note that your clothing may pick up some of the spray bronzer, but it will not stain and easily washes out. NO BRAS! Long sleeves and long pants will keep your fresh tan protected during your development time
If water accidentally gets on your skin—whether from a spill or a pet licking you—gently buff the area using a fluffy makeup brush in circular motions. For extra blending, apply a tiny amount of self-tanner with the brush. The bronzer may not look flawless immediately, but once rinsed, your tan will even out seamlessly.
Tan Maintenance
Keeping your skin moisturized is key, we recommend a spray tan friendly moisturizers at least 2x a day. Do not apply body sprays/perfumes or colognes directly on your skin as they contain high levels of alcohol + will dry out your skin + will leave your skin patchy (try spraying on clothes or hair instead of skin)
A spray tan can make your skin very thirsty so its super important to drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin from the inside out! This will help keep your smooth skin glowing and your spray tan lasting and fading evenly.
Avoid long, hot showers or baths, excessively sweating, + scrubbing the skin as this can result in a patchy or uneven fade. Jacuzzis, saunas, + steam rooms may all shorten the length of your tan or leave skin patchy.
If you plan on being in chlorine or natural salt water, a thick layer of SPF lotion should help protect your tan.
Never spray on your tanned skin, spray your hair or clothes. The alcohol in your perfume or body spray will strip the top layer of your tan. Causing your tan to fade unevenly and cause patching and break down DHA (the active ingredient in spray tans), especially during the first 24 hours when the tan is still developing.
Absolutely no DOVE products on your tanned skin, the pH balance in this soap will strip your tan. It may become blotchy and fade much faster. Please avoid.

A spray tan tends to last anywhere 7 to 10 days, depending on your aftercare and frequency of exfoliating. It's possible for your spray tan to last up to 12 days if you take extra good care of your skin. Spray tans only affect the top layer of skin, and since the body constantly sheds dead skin cells to regenerate new ones it fades accordingly. Drink water and moisturize at least 2x a day to ensure an even fade.
Ideally, we recommend you book your spray tan treatment 48 hours prior to any event as it takes a spray tan 24 hours to fully develop.
The short answer is NO. There are two concerns with spraying over sunburned skin. first, the red burned skin will change the overall look of the spray tan. The second is peeling of the skin or bubbling. The spray tan will be coming off in pieces along with the peeling skin.
Your spray tan application will usually take 15–20 minutes, but we can’t get enough of you. So we allocate a full 30 minutes for your post tan tan care session.
Absolutely. Bronzefx was founded on the belief that the only healthy tan is a sunless one. We’re passionate about protecting your skin while helping you glow confidently. Your tan should be as unique as your skin. That’s why every Bronzefx Sunless tan is custom-blended by a certified technician—not a machine. We tailor each shade to your natural undertones and desired depth, ensuring a flawless, natural-looking glow every time. Whether you're prepping for a wedding, vacation, or just because, your artist will guide you to the perfect tone.
Opt for loose, breathable clothing—think oversized sweats or a flowy set. Tight fabrics can leave marks and interfere with the development of your tan. The more relaxed the fit, the better the results. We also suggest wearing dark colours, as some bronzing solution may transfer during the initial hours, but it washes out easily.
Absolutely. We proudly welcome all humans—every body, every identity. Out of respect for our female artists, we kindly ask that male clients wear boxers, briefs, or a tanning sock during their session.
