The Science Behind Your Spray Tan

Big science. Little words. Beautiful tans. 🤎

Ever wondered how a clear liquid turns your skin bronze without a single minute in the sun?

Meet DHA (dihydroxyacetone).

Don't worry, there's no spelling test. 😂

So, What Exactly Is DHA?

DHA is the active ingredient that makes your spray tan happen.

When it meets the natural amino acids (tiny building blocks of proteins) on the surface of your skin, a chemical reaction creates that gorgeous bronze colour.

Think of how a sliced apple gradually turns brown. Different chemistry, similar idea: colour develops over time.

No UV rays. No baking in the sunshine. Just science doing its thing!

Why Doesn't My Tan Show Up Immediately?

Because DHA needs time to work!

Your colour develops gradually, usually over 12–24 hours.

At Bronzefx Sunless, we specialize in rapid spray tans, which means you can rinse sooner, not develop faster.

So if your tan looks lighter after that first shower, don't panic. She's still getting dressed. 😂

Why Do We Love DHA?

Because it gives you a customizable bronze without UV exposure!

From a subtle glow to a deep, dark bronze, DHA helps us create the colour you're after.

Just remember, a spray tan doesn't replace sunscreen.

Why Does My Spray Tan Fade?

Here's the easiest explanation ever.

Your skin naturally sheds old skin cells every day.

Since DHA creates colour in that outermost layer, your tan fades as those coloured cells shed.

Your tan isn't running away. Your skin is simply taking out the trash. 😂

Dry skin, exfoliation, friction and long hot baths can speed up the process.

That's why we always say:

Your tan is only as good as the condition of your skin.

The Bronze Files: Case Closed. 🤎

DHA reacts with your skin, develops into a beautiful bronze and gradually fades as your skin renews itself.

No sunshine. No chemistry degree. Just a little molecule doing a whole lot of heavy lifting.
